The eastern observatory of the Deutsches Museum

Main telescope of the eastern observatory is a 40cm Cassegrain mirror telescope made by Goerz (Berlin) in the year 1914. Originally designed as a lens mirror telescope the instrument was built especially for an expedition to the norwegian island Alsten in order to observe a total eclipse of the sun.
Later the instrument was changed to a Cassegrain system with a focal length of 7.2 m; it was shortened again to 3.6 m during its renovation in 2009.

Mounted on the 40cm telescope is a 90mm refractor (= lens telecope) which is used primarily as a finder scope but also is excellent for observation of moon and planets.

The telescope ensemble was renovated in 2009. It is now motorized and connected to a computer so the celestial objects can be found automatically.
